Welcome to my Pregnancy Timeline blog in which I will plan to write regular updates on my pregnancy, including information that I find out as I go along as well as sharing with you all my highs and lows.

You may ask why I am writing a blog, a couple of reasons, firstly I wanted to keep a record of my pregnancy that I can look back and secondly it will give me a chance to talk about what I am experiencing.

At present only my boyfriend and midwife know and I’m bursting to tell people but don’t want to jump the gun so am waiting until my 12 week scan before sharing with family and friends. That seems so far away on my pregnancy timeline.

A little bit about me, I’m 36 years old and I’m 6 weeks and 6 days pregnant along the pregnancy timeline with my first baby, it was planned but much to my surprise happened quite quickly.  I always had very irregular periods when I was in my late teens and twenties, on a couple of occasions going a year without having any period.  I also had quite long cycles, around 36 days when not taking the pill so I really expected a few problems conceiving.

I therefore decided to start taking my temperature and using ovulation predictor kits from the first month so I could find out what my cycles were doing.  This showed that they were 28/29 days and confirmed that I was ovulating, which I really wasn’t expecting, especially as I had only stopped taking the pill the month before.

I took my first pregnancy test 2 days after my period was due and got a very faint line, then took it pretty much every day for the next 4 days!!  I had planned to leave it a week before going to the doctors but I had a small amount of spotting that week so booked an appointment to put my mind at rest.

The doctor didn’t tell me too much which surprised me but I think it probably varies from practice to practice. Mine referred me straight to the midwife and then have no contact with you again unless there are problems on the pregnancy timeline.  I had an appointment with the midwife the following week and she explained the relevant dates for tests and scans and my choice of maternity unit.

That pretty much brings me up to date, I’m going to try and post about my Pregnancy Week to Week if not more often updating my pregnancy timeline blog.
